{M} Sunday Music Wishlist (Week 3) BIRTHDAY SPECIAL

{M}
This blog post contains mixed English and Filipino languages.

Good day to all of you! This is my birthday special of the weekly Sunday Music Wishlist.

Regarding last Sunday (18th March), hindi po ako nakapag-post nito for I can't spend time for making and posting blogs.

I returned to Blogger this week for I have more time for this already, at tsaka, nalalapit na ang aking birthday.

This week's edition doesn't feature any featured words.

If you can still remember, I chose "Defying Gravity" as my last year's theme song dahil I turned 18, meaning hindi na ako menor de edad, and it calls me to do what I haven't done before entering the age of majority, "defying gravity" 'ika nga.

I chose this song because I liked 'yung part na "I get knocked down, but I get up again" na paulit-ulit na binabanggit sa kantang ito. Sa dami ng pinagdaanan ko, ako po'y nadapa, pinadapa, at pilit idinadapa, but thanks be to my sandigang hindi natitibag, si God, in spite of those things, I'm still alive.

Here is "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba, released in 1997.

Before you watch it, sabihin ko lang po that the video below is not it's official music video. For some reasons, it doesn't work here. So I just posted a different yet humorous video.

Next song is a thirty-five year old song, ito 'yung pinapatugtog ng Papa ko sa radyo nung bata pa ako (casette tape pa 'yun) para makatulog kami ng kapatid ko (si April).

A lot of years had passed, I hadn't heard of this, the song that used to be the "lullaby" for us to fall asleep. Yet, last 2010, my Indonesian roommate asked me if I know this song. At first, I said no, but when he played it on his laptop, woah, I knew this! I knew this! I was brought back to my childhood days then.

This is "Ballade pour Adeline" played by Richard Clayderman (1976).

Going back to that song, I'm sure your parents (if the reader is in the Philippines) know this, this song is the OST for "Lovingly Yours, Helen" broadcast on GMA-7 (a major national television station in the Philippines) which ran from the 80s to the early 90s. The said TV show is very popular at that time.

When I was a kid, I liked singing, well, now I still do. When we went on a vacation to my mother's hometown in Sorsogon more than a decade ago, I always go to the hut where the karaoke is located, and always sing there. Lagi nga 'kong pinagbabawalan kasi madalas lasing Tiyo Tony ko noon, natatakot silang pagbalingan ako, but I don't really care, siyempre bata, may pagka-willful, so I still sing, in spite nga na lasing nga si Tiyo. And the songs I used to sing back then were "Spanish Eyes", "Quando Quando", and other Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck songs.

Here is "A Man Without Love" by Engelbert Humperdinck (1968).

For the record, Mr. Humperdinck is still living, he's now 75 years old. 'Nu kaya masasabi niya if he will compare the music of 40 years ago at 'yung music natin ngayon?

'Nung kabataan ko rin, nakahiligan ko ang mga masasayang awitin, 'yun din kasi ang panahong naglabasan ang mga songs under the "Bubblegum pop" genre. Bihira na lang ito ngayon. Examples po n'yan ay "Doctor Jones" at "Barbie Girl" at "Tarzan and Jane" ng grupong Aqua, gayundin ang "This Is How We Do It" ng Solid Base, puro 'yan between late 90s at early 2000s na awitin.

[HQ]

Lastly, we're jumping from me being a seven-year-old kid to being a person who is in my late teens.

Aside sa "Theme Song of the Year", ako rin po'y pumipili ng "Love Song of the Year", kaso ito'y pinipili bago pa magsimula ang isang bagong taon.

Ang mga napipili kong "Love Song of the Year" ay pawang naglalahad ng aking current status sa lovelife sa panahong piniipili ko ang awitin. I listen to the lyrics many many times just to choose a love song for the approaching new year.

Ang mga napili kong "Love Song of the Year" ay ang "Falling Away" ni Miguel Escueta (for 2008); "Crush" ni David Archuleta (for 2009); "Can't Keep On Loving You" ni Elliott Yamin (for 2010); at ang "Where Are You" nina Natalie at Justin Roman (for last year).

The last video of this week's edition of SMW is my 2012 Love Song of the Year. It's "Just So You Know" by Jesse McCartney (2006).

Note: 95% of the lyrics, in my lovelife's case, are true.

Hahay...hahaha....naibahagi ko na naman a bit details of my life.
Hanggang sa muli, salamat sa pagtangkilik sa aking blog!

{E} Some signs that a guy is in love with a girl

{E}
This blog post is suitable for worldwide English-speaking readers.

Well, for guys, if you're still confused with your feelings, can't differentiate if "real or just another crush", I think you check yourselves with this. I evaluated myself and found out that I have done most of them before (I marked them with this =7), some I haven't.

1. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he suddenly cannot tell the girl why he's in love with her, what he only knew is that he can't give his attention to other girls. =7

2. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he always makes the girl angry =7, but the girl never discovers what the guy has done wrong.

3. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he doesn't praise the girl face to face =7; however, he knows that, in his heart, his girl is the best.

4. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he scolds the girl when she failed to reply his text message.

5. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he cries in front of the girl by the time they are alone.

6. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if he keeps in mind what the girl carelessly said (in other terms, fail sayings: e.g. "Birds of the same together, flock feather."), and says it repeatedly at any given moment. =7

7. A guy who is deeply in love with a girl does not easily make promises, that is to make his girl know that he can be dependable and worthy of her trust through his words. =7

8. A guy who is deeply in love with a girl does not want his girl to imagine (badly) of (future) things, 'cause he just want her to know that he has planned a bright future for them.

9. A guy who is deeply in love with a girl may not remember their monthsaries and/or anniversaries, for what's in his mind is that loving his girl can be done anytime, not only in those days.

10. A guy who is deeply in love with a girl does not easily say "I love you" to his girl in her presence, for it is always expressed in his actions. Nevertheless, if there's a danger of being misunderstood by the girl, the guy may say it.

11. A guy is deeply in love with a girl if when the girl says something about him and says it all over again, he will say to her that one time is enough, for his girl knows his heart already, no need for reiteration.

12. A guy is deeply in love with the girl if he stays silent and quietly listens to his girl at the time she's releasing her anger=7

13. A guy is deeply in love with the girl if he calls his girl "Ms. (the surname of the girl)" to denote she's a young woman. =7

14. A guy is deeply in love with the girl when the girl throw bitter gourds to him (that is, to receive "bitter" words), he pretends to be serious, but deep inside, his heart gets sweet. =7

15. A guy who is deeply in love with the girl keeps himself busy when he does not see his girl for a long time because he knows that even in just a second he think of her, he will be out of focus=7

{E} Celebrate Valentine's Day.....EVERY MONTH???

{E}
This blog post is suitable for worldwide English-speaking readers.

Translated from original Chinese text.
Sources: http://www.zon100.com/news/11003630.html
http://www.douban.com/group/topic/21937519/

In some countries particularly in South Korea, the 14th day of every month is the Valentine's Day, people can celebrate it twelve times in a year.

January 14 >> "Diary Valentine's Day"
On this day, lovers will give each other a diary which records their happy moments of the past year. This also symbolizes that they will face together, hand in hand, another year of their relationship.

February 14 >> "Traditional Valentine's Day"
Girls usually will give dark chocolates to the guy they like.

March 14 >> "White Valentine's Day"
Guys receive chocolates from the girls a month before this date, and girls are looking forward to their gifts, in return for what they had given them. If the guy liked the girl who gave chocolates to him last month, he should give her white chocolates; if the guy doesn't like much the girl and he just wanna be friends with her, he should give her a (valentine) card.

April 14 >> "Black Valentine's Day"
For lovers, they eat mixed sauce noodles. According to tradition, the slimy and stretchy-yet-unbreakable noodles can be make their hearts be "together as one".
This day is for singles too, "black valentine's day" is actually meant for them. The singles and the loners meet each other in one place, encourage each other, and make themselves happy. They usually wear black clothes and drink coffee without creamer or milk, intentionally, to make "love be driven away by darkness".

May 14 >> "Rose Valentine's Day"
A man gives roses to the woman, but the color of the rose has its own meaning. If the color is white, the man just want the girl to know that he's her friend; if yellow, he's her confidant; and if red, he's your lover.

June 14 >> "Kiss Valentine's Day"
If the girl received a red rose the previous month, that means they have to kiss on this day! In the streets of South Korea, lovers kiss each other publicly, so don't be intimidated (if you will ever have a chance to witness it there), 'cause it's really their Kissing Day!

July 14 >> "Silver Valentine's Day"
The guy will introduce the girl to his parents, and the guy to the girl's parents. Lovers will also give each other items made of silver, especially, accessories.

August 14 >> "Green Valentine's Day"
Greenest is the summer of South Korea in August, that's why lovers tend to give themselves time to travel/make an outing together with Mother Nature.

September 14 >> "Photo Valentine's Day"
Photo Valentine's Day is also called Music Valentine's Day. This is a huge social event wherein lovers will introduce their partners to their friends and officemates. This is also a good opportunity for the singles to look for someone who suits them. Everyone takes pictures and dances to the rhythm of the music.

October 14 >> "Wine Valentine's Day"
Lovers drink grape wine together, symbolizing that love should not be rushed, as one should not drink wine hastily. But a friendly reminder here states that in South Korean law, persons under 19 years of age are prohibited from drinking wine, well, drink grape juice instead!

November 14 >> "Movie Valentine's Day"
Lovers take time to watch movies of love and romance. They used to reminisce their own love stories as they watch it.

December 14 >> "Hug Valentine's Day"
In the cold breeze of the wind, lovers hug each other, they feel not the coldness of winter but the warmth of each other's love.

Happy "White Valentine's Day" to all of you! Haha!

{E} Pimples are "signs" of several illnesses

{E}
This blog post is suitable for worldwide English-speaking readers.

Yesterday, in our "Extensive Reading of Magazines and Papers I" class, one of my Thai classmates gave a very interesting news report. I indirectly translated the original Chinese text from the 5th March 2012 issue of Nandu Daily.

Note: I can't guarantee an accurate translation but I did my best to make the best out of it. =7

Pimples are "signs" of several illnesses
Nandu Daily, 5th March 2012 (Monday)
by: Zeng Wenqiong

A statement has been viral in the net saying that pimples can tell us which body part has problems, netizens however doubt it and looking for [its scientific] basis. Professor Xie Changcai of Guangdong Chinese Medicine Hospital pointed out that based from traditional Chinese medicine theories, this statement has [scientific] basis. According to the Chinese medicine face experts, the face itself can reflect the functional status of body organs, in general, the cheeks reflects the lungs and the liver (the left cheek for the liver, the other for the lungs); the forehead reflects the heart; the nose, the stomach; the periorals (part of the face that surrounds the lips), the spleen; and the lower jaw part, the kidneys. If pimples grow on your face, most probably one of your body organs had [functional] disorders, or two or more of them had imbalance. Therefore, if pimples appear in different parts [of your face], one should use different methods in reconditioning our body, so that we can be victorious in our "war over pimples".

Pimples appear easily during spring and summer seasons
Talking about seasons, pimples appear more easily in spring and summer than in autumn and winter. "Because temperatures are higher in these seasons, ... and it may cause the facial skin to grow pimples... ," explained Prof. Xie.
...
Moreover, the doctor added that the cleanliness of the face is very vital, and recommended regular facial washing with warm water. To those who have oily, greasy faces, they can wash their faces more frequently, especially after going home from outdoor activities.
"Persons with pimples on the face must not put on it concealers or foundations for they cause clogged pores and blackheads." Pimples should not be dealt with oneself, and must not squeeze it with one's own hands, this is to avoid inflammation and pigmentation.

Pimples on face: one must take care of his/her health

  • Pimples on foreheads: take care of your heart
The forehead reflects the heart. Persons that have forehead pimples are most likely the ones who think deep, thus, are more easily to get heart burns. "They normally have sleeping difficulties (or insomniac) and are always upset, that's why the forehead easily grow pimples. Persons under these conditions should eat foods for the heart like nuts, soya beans, black sesame seeds, and dates. Sleeping must be of high importance."
  • Pimples on cheeks: pay attention to your liver and lungs
The liver and the lungs are being reflected by your cheeks. Pimples on those areas are characterized by functional disorders of the said organs. "One must refrain from drinking liquor and smoking cigarettes. Eating spicy foods must be avoided, too. Regular exercised is also advised." said Dr. Xie. Furthermore, females before their monthly periods usually grow pimples on their cheeks, Dr. Xie advised that these women should control their moods in order to avoid affecting the liver, which causes the cheeks to "produce" pimples.
  • Pimples on nose: stomach alert
The nose is the "Dangerous Triangular Zone" as been called in the medicine field. Pimples on the nose means (a) disorder/s in the stomach. But Dr. Xie reminds everybody not to squeeze your nose for a lot of nerves are in it, and it will hinder the nerves from indicating a certain infection.
  • Pimples around the lips: it's the spleen
If pimples grow around the lips, you must focus on your spleen (the organ responsible for the filtration of erythrocytes or red blood cells). Dr. Xie stressed that if this frequently happens, this means there's something wrong with your digestive system.
  • Pimples on the lower jaw: problem must be dealt with caution
Physical deficiencies can be determined if one has pimples between the lower jaw part and the shoulders. "Compare to other facial parts, pimples growing on the lower jaw part is more critical. If the back of your ears, the neck or chin grow pimples, ...these are best treated by specialists. One must observe reconditioning of the body, drinking Western ginseng tea is of big help."

Minute white pimples vs. hard red pimples
"Pimples on the face don't grow at only one particular place, they can grow anywhere..." Dr. Xie said. "Little white pimples growing on the face or at the back are caused by functional disorder of the lungs... If hard red painful pimples appears on your face, this means that ... you have to take care of your digestive system, don't eat too much spicy foods and maintain a regular bowel movement."

{E} Sunday Music Wishlist (Week 2)

{E}
This blog post is suitable for worldwide English-speaking readers.

Hi! This is the second week of "Sunday Music Wishlist".

The featured word for this week is "five".

1. "Five Days" - Patrick Nuo (2003)
This song is one of my favorite songs of all time. Though it was released in 2003, I just first heard of this song only last year. Aside from the music video itself, I bet, you will like the song also.

2. "5, 6, 7, 8" - Steps (1997)
This song was a big hit in the late 90s, I was in Nursery back then. Can you still remember this?

3. "Moves Like Jagger" - Maroon 5 (2011)
Maroon 5 zoomed its career in 2000s with "She Will Be Loved", "This Love" and others. A decade had passed but its songs still peak the charts.

4. "Mambo Number 5" - Lou Bega (1999)
Another dance hit of the 90s. I remembered "Eat Bulaga" (local noontime show in the Philippines for 33 years, also the longest running show in the country) playing this song very often, I think the show's Sexbomb Girls has performed with the tune of it.

(WARNING: Video may contain scenes not suitable for young viewers.)

5. "Flipside" - The Click Five (2008)
The Click Five is one of my favorite bands during my high school days because of their song "Jenny" and their single that I've featured here in SMW.

I'm open for suggestions for featured words by contacting me through Facebook, Twitter, or just by simply commenting on this blog post.

See you next week!

{E} Sunday Music Wish List (Week 1)

{E}
This blog post is suitable for worldwide English-speaking readers.

Hi!

This is a new weekly special in my blog.
The Sunday Music Wish List!

Every Sunday, my blog will bring you five songs that have a connection or that have something to do with the featured word.

Anyways, the featured word for this week is SUGAR.

I know that there are thoughts running in your head on what the five songs will be. Let's see the first song.

The first song was released in 2001. It ranked 2nd in the US Billboard Adult Top 40 on the same year.

One of my friends introduced it to me and it became one of my favorite songs.

My friends, here is "When It's Over" by Sugar Ray.
(WARNING: Video may contain scenes not suitable for young viewers.)

The second song, i think everybody knows this. It was released in 2009. It peaked at #2 in New Zealand and at #5 in the U.S.

This is the popular song of Flo Rida featuring Wynter, entitled "Sugar."

The third song, a lot of you  don't know this. This was released in 1961 by The Drifters and was revived a few years later by The Searchers.

If your parents were alive in the 60s, they surely know this.

Here is "Sweets For My Sweet" by The Searchers.
BLACK AND WHITE VIDEO >> HQ

Hey, where's the "sugar" there?
It's in the lyrics!
"Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey..."

Archie Comics are not that "in" nowadays, but one of their animated music segments has an obvious connection with our fourth song.

The music video below is first shown in 1969 at CBS (Columbian Broadcasting Network, a leading television network in the U.S.) for the show "The Archie Comedy Hour".

I think this song somehow is familiar to you.

Let's watch "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies

Lastly, the latest song among the five. It's from Trick Daddy with Cee-Lo, on their 2011 song, which is also entitled "Sugar".
(WARNING: Lyrics contain words not appropriate for children.)

Since this is a "wishlist", I'm open for suggestions of featured words; you can do any of the following:
1. comment on this blog,
2. send me a message thru Facebook, or
3. tweet me on @Joe27Tweets

Your suggested word might be featured here next Sunday.
Hope you guys like it.
Thanks for viewing!

{M} Reading newspapers, interesting or boring?

{M}
The blog contains mixed Filipino and English languages.

This semester,  I have one subject named "Extensive Reading of Magazines and Papers I". By the title itself, oh no, don't make us fool around here, it's a newspaper reading subject! Magazine ka d'yan?!

(Above) A screenshot from my Jinan University student account.
I do read newspapers, however, I don't read the entire of it, let's say from front page to back page...it would take me days or even weeks to finish reading 'em all.

I remember back in my early days ('kala mo ganon na katanda 'no? "Early days"? I did not care about the headlines at iba pang balita na hindi naman ako nakaka-relate before.

But then, I must tell you that here in China, I had barely seen any English language newspaper, lahat ng diyaryo dito puro in Chinese! 'Yung iba pa nga in Cantonese pa.

Lagot kang bata ka!

Nung bagong dating ako dito, I tried myself if I can understand Chinese newspaper, bumili ako ng isa, worth RMB1.00 (~PHP7.00, 32 paged tabloid).

Wehehe!

First year pa lang ako, I'm aware of this subject na, na talagang ma-e-encounter ko itong subject na ito. I was quite nervous at that time. Praying na 'wag muna 'tong ibigay sa amin on our first year, 'cause admittedly, my foundation of Chinese proficiency in those days is not sufficient for me to understand Chinese newspapers.

Thank God hindi siya nagpakita sa class schedule namin last academic year.

At heto na nga, bulaga! Hahahahaha...pa'no ba 'to, Joe?

"You have to choose me......"

Whew! Sana babae ka na lang, I'll choose you without hesitation talaga!

"Two units pa naman ako, 'di ba gusto mong mapuno 24 units mo this sem? Come on, click, click, click! Choose me!"

Sige na nga! Click!

That subject has been chosen by me last Tuesday. Enrolled na 'ko sa subject na reading of magazines and papers kuno, e nung pinakilala ng prof namin what to expect on her subject, wala siyang nabanggit anything about magazines. Magnu-news report pa nga e in front of the class.

Isa pang ipina-assignment niya is that magbabasa daw kami ng newspaper every week. What? Every week?

Look below.

Do you think matatapos ko 'yan ng sanlinggo? What-a-men!

...which are wala namang kinalaman sa akin bilang isang overseas Filipino student.

Sana this subject will truly be able not only to improve my Chinese, but also to understand more about them.

Now, I think this subject will gonna be interesting. Don't judge the book by its cover nga naman.

Pagtapos nito, may ""Extensive Reading of Magazines and Papers II" pa.

Oh no, not again.

Pero okay lang, last na yun e. Tapusin ko muna itong una.
